A pair of chaffinches are gathering nest building material. The female has found a wonderful haul of cat fur in a comb on the deck, where I have just been grooming Flo. The male watches. She comes back later looking for more, so I comb Flo again. She loves being groomed anyway. Being nearly blind, she smells her way around the garden. I keep an eye on her, in case she gets lost. She hasn’t been able to catch any mice this spring, which must be frustrating for her. At least the young birds are safe!
